Owww, the inaugural leak off Thad Reid‘s forthcoming street album, could hardly have been more aptly titled, since it was a massive hit with most of our readers (and getting hit hurts, you know?). With world premiere numero dos, things are slightly less straightforward – while Reid and his collaborators do indeed deliver the lyrical freshness that’s become their par-for-the-course, those looking for a routine, everyday experience may find Same as We Ever Was a disappointment. Don. S, producer of Reid’s last feature, switches his game up dramatically here, cooking up a street-ready synth-brass instrumental as the Blue Collar Muzik rapper and his DMV-based cohorts, Inglorious Beta emcee K-Beta and D.C. buzzmaker RAtheMC, fire off their most potent lyrical ammunition in verses brimming with vivid braggadocio.
